Download Audio: Managing Multiple Social Media Accounts
Social media has gained so much prominence in the lives of a lot of people, and it has also become indispensable for business in so many ways. As a result, many people and probably yourself included, have to deal with more than one social media account.
If you run a business, it is likely that you have more than one social media account or pages that you have to manage. In my case, apart from my personal social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, I also manage business pages and accounts on each of these platforms, including a business Instagram account.
Managing multiple social media real estate can be daunting at times, and may involve repetition and duplication of efforts when making posts, and interacting with your audience.
Being fully engaged on social media platforms can be very demanding in terms of time and commitment. Let’s face it, unless you are a dedicated marketer, social media is not your primary occupation.
Social media is rather something most people do in order to stay in the loop and to stay relevant. You of course also have other activities that demand your attention, and anything that helps you manage social media is a win-win.
Managing social media sooner or later becomes a serious challenge, especially if you are responsible for several accounts, across several social networks. The demands on your time, with regards to keeping up with your social media, can be exasperating. Furthermore, coming up with regular and fresh content to keep your audience engaged is no easy task.
The challenge of managing social media is further compounded by considering that there is work to be done at the office, along with business commitments requiring your attention, as well as family commitments at home, not to mention social obligations in “real life”.
All these demands on your time and attention, can cause strain and stress. As a result, it is not uncommon that people abandon their social media efforts, a few months in, or do not conduct them at the same level and enthusiasm as when they started out.
The good news is that there are tools out there, both free and commercial, that can help you to cope better.
Automation is the best solution to handling situations that are repetitive, and at risk of quickly becoming unmanageable. With the social media management tools that are out there, you can automate a significant part of your social media routine.
Instead of posting to social media platforms in real time, you can automate this activity. This means that you can sit and write most of your posts ahead of the time you intend to publish, and the social media management tool will handle the rest.
With these tools, you can author your posts in advance, and at your convenience and trust that you will have content published at the time and sequence you prefer.
You can therefore schedule when a post will be published on your social media platforms, and you can also schedule multiple posts. With most of these social media management tools, you can also set the frequency you need to post in the course of the day.
Once you start managing several social media accounts across several platforms, the need to login into several platforms soon becomes a chore. It is annoying to open several browser windows when making posts on social media platforms. Wouldn’t it be easier if you could login just once, and quickly post everywhere you have a presence?
If there is one added advantage to using social media management tools, it is the centralisation they bring. You will only have to enter the login details for each social media account once, when adding the account to the social media management tool and subsequently just post from the tool.
Furthermore, these tools provide the interface that allows you to manage all social media posts and interactions from the unified interface of a single tool, meaning you can manage all your posts from one familiar interface.
A useful feature of these tools is the opportunity to collaborate. You may have a team that manages your social media, and these tools offer seamless collaboration features, to enable your team to manage your social media.
A quick Google search will bring up a lot of social media management tools you can use, but you will have to evaluate the ones that suit your workflow and budget best. Some of the tools are free, with limitations such as having a few social media accounts you can manage, but offer a premium price if you need to manage more accounts.
Two of the popular tools out there are Hootsuite and Buffer. Hootsuite offers integrations with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and many more social networks through a dashboard. The tool offers a free 30 day trial.
Buffer manages social media accounts by scheduling posts to Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Instagram and more. The free version allows the management of 3 channels, each limited to 10 scheduled posts at any given time.
Of Course there are many other tools out there, but you will have to try a few to see what works for you. Begin by carrying out a Google search on “Social Media Management Tools” and you will quickly find what suits your tastes and requirements.
If you are managing several social media platforms at once, I suggest you to pick a tool for social media management and give it a try. You do not have much to lose, as most of these tools offer free plans or trials, which you can use to try the tool out, and see if you like it before going premium.
